Rolling Stone Covers

When I went to Berkeley to photograph Sun Ra for Issue No. 31, I had no idea who he was or what sort of music he and his Arkestra played.  The man was a remarkable and somewhat obscure musician – both he and his music were other-worldly, difficult to grasp.  Sun Ra died in 1993 but his music, an amalgam of jazz, electronic and improvisation, has been rediscovered by a new and younger audience.
